This Privacy Policy explains what OppMatcher collects, why we use it, which service providers help us run the platform, and how you can ask questions or exercise your privacy rights.

Last updated: 16 October 2026Applies to oppmatcher.tech

1. Who we are

OppMatcher (also described as Opportunity Global Matcher) operates the website oppmatcher.tech and its Opportunity Passport workspace. We are responsible for deciding how personal information collected through our service is used. For privacy or data-protection enquiries, email privacy@oppmatcher.tech.

2. Information we collect

  • Account and sign-in information: your name, email address, user identifier, authentication or verification status, and sign-in information supplied by the identity provider you choose (such as Google). If another sign-in provider is made available later, its use will be optional.
  • Opportunity Passport: information you enter to assess potential eligibility, such as nationality, country of residence, education level, subject area, institution, qualifications, academic results, age, work experience, language readiness, and opportunity or funding preferences. Some fields are optional.
  • Workspace activity: saved opportunities, application stages, checklists, notes, preparation progress and similar information you choose to keep in your workspace.
  • Communication preferences: whether you have opted in to optional opportunity emails and when that preference was recorded, as applicable.
  • Correspondence: information you send to our privacy contact address when you request help or exercise your rights.
  • Technical information: information necessary to run, secure and troubleshoot the site, which may include IP addresses, request logs, browser/device details, errors and session-related information.

Some information is provided directly by you; basic account details may come from your chosen sign-in provider. We do not ask you to upload official identity documents as a condition of creating a standard Opportunity Passport.

3. How and why we use personal information

You need to provide basic account information to register, and nationality, education level and field of study to complete the core Passport. Other fields are generally optional, but omitting them can reduce the precision of eligibility checks. No law requires you to create an OppMatcher account.

4. How opportunity matching works

OppMatcher compares information in your Passport with scholarship, internship and fellowship details in our opportunity database. It may produce possible matches, filters and indicators that a requirement needs further checking. These are guidance tools, not official eligibility decisions. Admissions or programme providers make their own decisions, and you should verify the current requirements on each official provider's website.

The matching process does not itself make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you. Following an external opportunity link takes you to a separate website with its own privacy practices.

5. Service providers and information sharing

We use service providers to operate OppMatcher, including:

  • Neon / Better Auth: account authentication and cloud database services.
  • Vercel: website hosting and related operational infrastructure.
  • Resend: delivery of account and other emails sent by OppMatcher.
  • ImprovMX: forwarding messages addressed to privacy@oppmatcher.tech to our managed inbox.
  • Google: authentication only when you choose Google sign-in. Other social providers will be relevant only if we enable them and you choose to use them.

These providers receive or process the information needed for their respective services. We may also disclose information where required by law or necessary to respond to a lawful request. We do not sell personal information or your Opportunity Passport data. We do not automatically send your Passport to scholarship or employer websites merely because you view a listing.

6. Cookies and browser storage

OppMatcher uses authentication sessions and browser storage for functions such as keeping you signed in, saving your workspace locally, restoring the account-connected Passport and remembering display preferences. Some of this information is stored in your browser; when you sign in, selected workspace data is also synchronised with the cloud database.

You can clear browser storage through your browser settings, although this may sign you out or remove local-only information. Clearing your browser does not automatically erase cloud-stored account data. Sign-in providers may set their own cookies subject to their privacy notices.

7. Where information may be processed

OppMatcher serves people internationally. Our infrastructure and service providers may process information in countries other than the one in which you live, including the United States. Where data-protection law requires safeguards for international transfers, those requirements apply to our use of service providers. Contact us if you would like more information about transfers relating to your account.

8. How long we keep data and how we protect it

We generally retain account and workspace information while your account remains active or until you ask for its removal, unless we need to keep particular records for legitimate security, dispute-resolution, legal or operational purposes. Technical logs, operational email records and backups may have different retention cycles based on their function and the systems that process them. We review retention in light of the purpose, sensitivity and applicable requirements.

We use access controls and other technical measures intended to protect account information. No online service or transmission method can be guaranteed completely secure. Please use a strong, unique password and protect your account access.

9. Your choices and privacy rights

Depending on your location and the applicable law, you may have rights to access your information; correct it; request deletion; restrict or object to processing; obtain a portable copy; and withdraw consent where we rely on it. These rights can be subject to legal exceptions. You can update the Passport information available in your account.

You may object to processing based on legitimate interests. You can also withdraw consent for optional promotional or opportunity-update emails without losing essential service messages.

For an access, correction, deletion or other privacy request, email privacy@oppmatcher.tech from the address associated with your account when possible. We may need to verify your identity before making sensitive changes. We will respond in accordance with applicable law.

If you are in the UK, you can raise a concern with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). If you live elsewhere, you may also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this notice as the product, service providers or applicable requirements change. The date at the top identifies the current version. Where a change materially affects how we use personal information, we will provide additional notice when required by law.
